Mike began his career with the NYPD in December of 1980 as a Transit Police officer and worked his way up to the top rank of first-grade detective after years on the street, investigating a wide variety of crimes across the city, including high-profile homicides.

Mike started Squad Security in 1992 while still a member of the NYPD. He began with a few employees and one client, focusing on providing quality armed security services to New York based  companies, including the American Stock Exchange. Since retiring from the NYPD in 2000, following a 20- year career in public service, Mike has overseen an impressive expansion of Squad Security’s business and reputation. The firm now employs more than 600 security personnel.

Mike is an affable professional who excels in analyzing security related situations. As a media commentator, he provides insights into security issues that often affect average people’s lives, whether they’re workers, students, or corporate executives.

Mike has been a guest on WINS Radio, NBC-TV, Fox News, Court TV, MSNBC and CNN, and has been quoted in the New York Times and New York Post. He has contributed opinion essays to the New York Daily News and Long Island Business News. Recently Mike began hosting a series of webcasts on the latter’s “LIBN Now.” He also currently authors a twice-monthly security Q&A column in LIBN.

He is a member of the Company of Security Professionals of the United Kingdom, the National Association of Chiefs of Police, Associated Licensed Detectives of New York State, and the American Academy for Professional Law Enforcement and ASIS International.

He has served as a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Holy Cross High School, his alma mater, in Flushing, NY and as president of the Seaford Union Free School District Board of Education. He is active in various philanthropic efforts, including providing scholarships to economically needy, academically gifted high school students attending Holy Cross.In addition, he is a senior trustee of the Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage and serves on the boards of Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital, the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, and the Columbus Citizens Foundation.
