Cameras coming soon to LIRR trains

The MTA will install video and audio recorders on its Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains.

Designs from prospective vendors will be evaluated on criteria such as technical capability, experience of team members, and cost.  The primary purpose of the cameras is to aid in investigations after incidents and deter people who might affect safe train operations.

Last month, the NTSB recommended the cameras as a result of its investigation into last December’s fatal derailment at Spuyten Duyvil.
