Governor Cuomo: LIE/Parkways may be closed before blizzard hits

The LIE and State Parkways may be closed before the blizzard even hits, Governor Cuomo issued a statement Wednesday “We don’t want people in a situation where they have used their vehicles to commute in the morning and now they can’t get home because the roadways are closed,”.  The closures are being considered as the state has two potential storms with limited resources. Blizzard Warning for Long Island!

According to Meteorologist John Wetherbee a blizzard warning is in effect from 6p Thursday till 1pm Friday.

Accumulations… up to around 1 inch of snow is forecast
overnight through the Thursday morning rush hour. An additional
7 to 9 inches of snow is forecast Thursday evening through
Friday. Total accumulations of 8 to 10 inches are forecast.Winds: north 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.Wind chills: from 10 below zero to around zero from late
Thursday night through Friday.Blowing and drifting snow will produce dangerous
travel conditions. Wind chills from 10 degrees below zero to
around zero will produce extreme cold impacts.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibility are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions… making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel… have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded… stay with your vehicle.
