Your skin is the largest organ in your body, not to mention that it plays an important role in protecting you from the environment and projecting your true image and health. The “Love Your Skin” show, hosted by Advanced Dermatology’s outstanding dermatologists, discusses various aspects of medical conditions of the hair, nails, and skin, and also covers cosmetic, laser dermatology and plastic surgery techniques and how they can better your skin’s health and appearance.
Since 1986, Advanced Dermatology, P.C. and the Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery have been serving the communities of Long Island and New York City, offering a wide array of dermatological, cosmetic, laser and plastic surgery services. In addition to Advanced Dermatology specializing in all areas of adult and pediatric dermatology, many of their doctors have subspecialty training. Their facilities, located in Commack, West Islip, and East Setauket, provide personalized, conservative, effective and less painful treatments for a variety of skin conditions. Their board certified physicians are collectively fellows of the AmericanAcademy of Dermatology, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, American Contact Dermatitis Society, and many other societies. Collectively, they serve as official spokespeople for The American Academy of Dermatology and The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Valerie Goldburt, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.D. As an undergraduate at Harvard University, Dr. Valerie Goldburt began her career studying the mechanisms of genetic switches, completing her studies in biochemistry with honors. She continued her interest in science and medicine as a graduate student at Columbia University in New York, where she completed a Master’s degree studying the effects of ultraviolet light on cancer proteins. Dr. Goldburt then earned an M.D. from Downstate Medical Center, where she also completed a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology, studying immune defense mechanisms. During her six years there, she was her medical school’s representative at the American Association of Medical Colleges conferences around the nation.
An outstanding scholar, she received grants from the Howard Hughes Institute and the NIH for her undergraduate education and her medical school career was fully funded by several grants, as well as the NIH. Dr. Goldburt completed her internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and a dermatology residency at Downstate Medical Center.
She enjoys traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and has given many presentations at professional meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatology Foundation. Dr. Goldburt particularly enjoys intricate surgical and cosmetic procedures, having highly-trained dexterity from her years as a conservatory-trained pianist.
She has a special interest in skin care products and has worked as a consultant on skin care for cosmetics corporations Lancôme and L’Oreal. Dr. Goldburt is board certified in dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She joined the practice at Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in 2007.
Lance Barazani, M.D., F.A.A.D. Dr. Barazani earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. As a student there, he was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was also honored with the Alfred Schwartz Award for Pathology. He served his internal medicine residency at the University Hospital East Setauket, NY. He continued his training as associate physician at The Rockefeller University Laboratory for Investigative Dermatology in NY, where he completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship before completing his dermatology residency at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Barazani has conducted research work on skin disorders and wound healing, with his findings published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and other peer-reviewed medical journals. As a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons he performs natural hair transplants regularly and is a leading expert. He was one of the first physicians on Long Island to perform cosmetic Botox ® treatments in 1996.
He is recognized by Botox ® Cosmetic as a member of the National Education Faculty, an honor limited to very few physicians nationwide. Dr. Barazani has a clinical interest in scar treatments, using various lasers, fillers and other innovative modalities to reduce the appearance of scarring. Dr. Barazani has been a member of Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery since 1994.
His patient philosophy is to treat patients the way he himself expects to be treated at a doctor’s office: with courtesy, honesty and respect. Dr. Barazani donates his expertise in the form of dermatological services and procedures to local charities. An avid music fan, he enjoys playing classical piano in his free time and boasts an iTunes library of over 12,000 songs, primarily of the country genre.
