One top New York lawmaker says he knows what to do about the proliferation of drones in the skies over the U.S.  Senator Chuck Schumer says he wants to see them better regulated.

Schumer says privately operated drones pose not only a safety issue, but one of privacy as well.  Schumer says it shouldn’t be legal for one to send a drone to peer into one’s bedroom window and, therefore, the use of drones by private investigators should be banned.

And he says the FAA should have stronger regulations in place for their use commercially by the end of the year.

“Newsday” reports the pilot program is aimed at improving officer performance while also honoring civilian privacy.  The DWI enforcement unit currently has two dashboard cameras in use.

The department says it also plans to plant “body cameras” on a few officers by the end of the year, a concept that has sparked its share of controversy.

Just when Long Island Rail Road riders thought it was all over, “Newsday” reports an engineer strike is possible as soon as next year.

Most of the LIRR unions reached a contract agreement with the railroad last month, averting a looming strike that made headlines nationwide.  However, the union that represents hundreds of engineers chose to negotiate separately from other LIRR unions, pushing its contract negotiations back about a year.

The National Mediation Board is set to meet with the union and MTA officials later this month to discuss the contract dispute.
