Breaking News! Owner of Oheka Castle shot

gary(Huntington) Owner of Oheka Castle (135 W Gate DR Cold Spring Habor), Gary Melius was shot in the parking lot of Oheka castle by a masked gunman in a grey or light brown Jeep Grand Cherokee today.  He was transported to the hospital by his daughter prior to patrol being on the scene, condition reported as ‘responsive’.  Transported to Syosset hospital.  Detectives are on site reviewing cameras.  LI News Radio will keep you updated as this story unfolds.

Advisory: Wanted for Grand Larceny

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Third Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the woman who stole a credit card from a Target store in December and used it at several locations in Bay Shore and Deer Park.

A woman stole a credit card, cash and lottery tickets from a purse at Target, located at 838 Sunrise Highway, Bay Shore, on December 24, 2013, while the victim was in the dressing room. The credit card was later used at several locations in Bay Shore and Deer Park. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a Ford Taurus.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Wanted for Burglary: Cash Reward

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who burglarized a Huntington Station deli.

A man broke into One Stop Deli, located at 150 West Pulaski Road, sometime during the overnight hours on November 30, 2013 and stole money from the store.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Gardner gets a new deal

The New York Yankees are extending the contract of outfielder Brett Gardner.

The two sides agreed to a four-year, 52-million-dollar deal on Sunday.  The contract starts in 2015 and will have a 12.5-million-dollar club option for a fifth season.  Gardner hit .273 with eight home runs and 52 RBI to go with 24 steals in 145 games last season.

War on Potholes

Long Island officials are declaring war on potholes with a new road repair program.

This morning on Grace Avenue in North Merrick, Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes will fill a pothole and unveil the new Pothole Response Team at an event at 11:30.  The program is designed to bolster the work performed by highway crews by adding workers from the township’s parks and sanitation departments.

The endless snowstorms that have slammed Long Island since the beginning of the year have left countless potholes across the region.

New York Senator Charles Schumer wants to restrict the use of data that companies collect from your car.  He says while GPS, car-to-car communication and black boxes are great for safety they, pose a threat to privacy.

Schumer says carmakers know where every single driver goes and what he’s doing.  Schumer is asking the Federal Trade Commission and the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration to draft new guidelines for what carmakers can do with the information they’re getting.

A study by the Government Accountability Office shows the data is already being sold to advertisers.

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred outside an Islip Terrace bar early Sunday morning.

A group of people were in the parking lot of Ethan Aya Sports Bar and Grill, located at 42 Lowell Ave., when an altercation ensued and shots were fired. Richard Morales, 36, of East Patchogue was shot in the left calf and was treated at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and released.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Man killed in Patchogue crash

Suffolk Police are investigating a single-car crash that killed a Patchogue man last night.

Kelly Charles was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima southbound on Waverly Avenue near West 2nd  Street in Patchogue at 10:18 p.m. when his vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.

Charles, 49, of River Avenue, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

Closing Ceremony Marks Conclusion of Winter Olympics in Sochi

(SOCHI, Russia) — The Olympic flame has been doused at Sochi, Russia.

According to ABC’s Jim Ryan, 40,000 people attended the Closing Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics at Fischt Stadium in Sochi.

The ceremony celebrated a musical exploration of Russian culture, music, literature, and even a colorful circus.

The Closing Ceremony also featured the transfer of the Olympic flag from Russia to South Korea, the site of the 2018 Games.

The mayor of Sochi presided over the lowering of the Olympic flag. He then waved the flag before handing it off to the mayor of Pyeong Chang, South Korea, who watched it rise near the South Korean flag.
